Packing for your Summer Holidays, the Perfect Way!

thailand
The sun is officially shining! Which means this is the perfect time for me to post this, so we can all get a little summer inspiration for this amazing weather!!

It won’t be long now, before thousands of Brits will be flocking overseas for a holiday in the sun, and who can blame them? A week or two on the golden sands of somewhere warm and sunny will always be preferred over our bleak, unpredictable climes, won’t it? Of course, not all of us will be lucky enough to get away this year, but if you are one of those who have bagged a fabulous deal, you’ll be thinking about what to pack in no time at all.

When it comes to packing your suitcase, there are better systems than others. Pulling everything off the hangers and throwing them all into the suitcase may be a tempting way of packing for your holidays, but if you want to make the most out of the space you have, there are certainly better ways to do it. Whether you’re looking at your maxi dress and wondering which sandals go with it, or you’re trying to narrow down your wardrobe so that you’re not slammed with unnecessary baggage fines, here are some great snippets of advice that will ensure your suitcase is packed, in the most effective way possible.

  • Check the baggage restrictions before you begin. Know exactly how much you’re allowed so that you’re not faced with a shock once you’re at the check-in desk. Different airlines operate different regulations, with some charging for suitcases regardless of how heavy they are, so make sure you know in advance!
  • Make sure that any liquids you put in your carry-on luggage are stored in a zipped up, plastic bag. It’s far easier to ensure this is all sorted before you’re going through security rather than having your bags rummaged through.
  • Don’t over pack. Make a list of what you’d like to take and try and economise. Use clothes that can be worn more than once, such as a maxi dress from George, or strappy vest tops that can be mixed and matched.
  • Make sure that your suitcase is distinguishable. Traveling without a luggage label would be silly, especially as airlines have a habit of mislaying suitcases. If you have a suitcase that is quite common in appearance, consider adding something personalised to it, so that you can spot it amongst the sea of bags on the conveyor belt with ease.
  • Roll your clothes if you’re not planning on ironing anything once you arrive at your destination. Not only will the garments be less creased, but you’ll also be able to fit more in your suitcase.
  • If you’re travelling with more than one suitcase, consider splitting your things so that essentially, you and your family are sharing each of your suitcases. That way, if you lose one bag, you don’t lose all of your belongings.
  • Double bag your toiletries, just in case the pressure of the aircraft causes anything to leak. Plastic containers can expand in the unpressurised hold, and you don’t want your things to get damaged!
  • Weigh your suitcase before you arrive at the airport – bathroom scales are ideal and can give you an inkling as to how heavy your suitcase is in advance.
Most of all, make the most out of your well-deserved break! Be sensible about how much you take and enjoy every second of the sunshine!

I’d love to know your summer holiday plans, where is everyone jetting off to? I need to find myself a super cheap holiday too, so any suggestions are welcome :)
