Days Out with the Kids

With the summer holidays fast approaching, thoughts are turning to what to do with the children to keep them occupied for six weeks. Make a list of places you all fancy going in advance of the holidays to create a bit of excitement and anticipation about your days out. It will also help you to keep in mind what you need for each activity. Luckily the ASDA George clothing range is on hand to kit you out in whatever you need, whatever the weather, so if you need jeans, shorts, T shirts or hoodies, George is the place to go. So where should you head on your days out with the kids this summer? Take a look at a few suggestions below:

Catch a Ferry

Take a ferry to the Isle of Wight, Ireland, the Isle of Mann, or France and have fun exploring a little further afield. Perhaps combine your ferry trip with a holiday, or just explore for a few hours before returning home on the ferry again. The ferry makes it all the more fun and creates a bit of adventure.

Down on the Farm

Take the kids for a day out at the farm. There are simply hundreds of farms throughout the UK all offering something different to set them apart from the rest. You can enjoy milking time with the cows, tractor rides, collecting eggs from the chickens, bottle feeding baby goats and pony rides around the farm. Add to that some pretty spectacular play areas and you have a great day out that all the family will enjoy.

Some great farms to visit with the kids are Longdown Activity Farm in the New Forest where you can have fun getting hands on and meeting baby bunnies and chicks and bottle feeding the crazy baby goats, who push each other out of the way just to get to the bottles. Another great farm is Godstone Farm & Play Barn in Surrey. Hugely popular with families, you can interact with the animals, enjoy the tractor rides, play in the sandpits, get lost in the maze, build a den and burn off some energy in the indoor play area. Or, if you’re in the Midlands, try the Farm Park at Chatsworth House in Derbyshire for a fantastic adventure playground alongside cute animals.

Get Active

Kids who like a little action in their school holidays will love the activity centres like Go Ape. Here you can try your hand at segway on the special segway tracks throughout the forest, fly down a zip wire, and brave the Tarzan swings, the high ropes and the tree top obstacle course. There's so much to do that even the bravest child wont be able to help but be thrilled as they whoosh through the trees and crawl through tunnels up in the canopy.

Other great things to do during the holidays include taking classes together, perhaps learning a new language or to decorate cupcakes, visit the zoo or take a step back in time and follow in the footsteps of England's past Kings and Queens at a stately home or castle. There's so much to do during UK summers that you, and the kids, really will be spoiled for choice.

Summer packing, booking and all the extras!

So, I will be heading off on my first holiday of the year tomorrow and thought this would be the perfect opportunity to post this. Todays post is all about summer holidays, where to book, what to take and how to protect yourself from the weather, as beautiful as it can be when we're topping up our tans! I'm heading to Benidorm, Spain... for a short sun break to celebrate my sisters hen party so I'm very excited, as you can imagine! I can't promise to get any style pictures while I'm there as I'll probably be either sunbathing, eating or drinking but will be posting some fashion related posts once I am home next week. The image above is my favourite pick of summer tankinis - the leaf print is a definite trend this season.

Packing for your Holiday
It's that time of year again when all thoughts turn to sunnier shores for our annual summer holidays. If like everyone else, you're dreaming of sun, sea, sand and maybe even a jug or two of sangria, you might want to start thinking about your holiday wardrobe too. You'll have seen all the spring and summer items creeping into the shops of late, brightening up the store with their bold patterns and cheerful colours. You may have even worn a few summery items yourself recently thanks to the great weather we had in March. But what should you pack for your holiday? Read on to find out.

Swimwear
You will of course need some great swimwear for topping up that tan and taking a dip in the pool or the sea. Whether you favour swimming costumes, bikinis or even tankinis, you're sure to find your perfect fit with a little shopping around. Bikinis are of course great if you're confident in your figure, swimming costumes provide support and figure shaping where you need it and tankinis give that little bit of extra coverage without having to wear a full swimming costume. Great if you prefer to cover up on the beach but still want to get a tan on your stomach when you're back in the privacy of your own balcony. Why not try a great value tankini from George this year? There is a great range of fashionable tankinis, including body sculpting ones and the latest tropical and animal print styles too. Best of all they're affordable, so you can treat yourself to more than one.

Dresses
Pretty, light, floaty dresses are perfect for sunnier climes. If you have pins to die for, show them off in shorter styles. Think pretty camisole dresses, tunic style dresses (great for wearing over leggings or tights when the weather gets a little bit cooler back home) and daring bodycon dresses to show off perfectly toned figures. Maxi dresses are fantastic for anyone of any shape or size - perfect to cover up parts of you that you might not want on show and a style that just never seems to go out of fashion. Plus they're great to wear day or night.

Cover Ups
Whether it's a pretty beach dress or kaftan for covering up during the day by the pool or on the beach, or a lightweight cardigan or shawl for taking the edge off any slightly cooler weather at night, cover ups are an essential part of any holiday wardrobe. You can even find kaftans pretty enough to take you from beach to bar in moments, so keep your eyes peeled for cover ups that can be worn time and again.

Other great choices are T shirts and vests, shorts and capri pant style trousers. Remember to pack your accessories and sandals. Sunglasses and hats are a must to avoid the sun getting a little too much during the day and of course remember that suncream too! You don't need to over pack on holiday, just take into consideration the type of holiday you'll be having and pack accordingly. If you're unlikely to move from the beach all day you won't be needing many daytime clothes other than the above so one short shopping trip could see you packed and ready to go!

Packing for your Summer Holidays, the Perfect Way!

thailand
The sun is officially shining! Which means this is the perfect time for me to post this, so we can all get a little summer inspiration for this amazing weather!!

It won’t be long now, before thousands of Brits will be flocking overseas for a holiday in the sun, and who can blame them? A week or two on the golden sands of somewhere warm and sunny will always be preferred over our bleak, unpredictable climes, won’t it? Of course, not all of us will be lucky enough to get away this year, but if you are one of those who have bagged a fabulous deal, you’ll be thinking about what to pack in no time at all.

When it comes to packing your suitcase, there are better systems than others. Pulling everything off the hangers and throwing them all into the suitcase may be a tempting way of packing for your holidays, but if you want to make the most out of the space you have, there are certainly better ways to do it. Whether you’re looking at your maxi dress and wondering which sandals go with it, or you’re trying to narrow down your wardrobe so that you’re not slammed with unnecessary baggage fines, here are some great snippets of advice that will ensure your suitcase is packed, in the most effective way possible.

  • Check the baggage restrictions before you begin. Know exactly how much you’re allowed so that you’re not faced with a shock once you’re at the check-in desk. Different airlines operate different regulations, with some charging for suitcases regardless of how heavy they are, so make sure you know in advance!
  • Make sure that any liquids you put in your carry-on luggage are stored in a zipped up, plastic bag. It’s far easier to ensure this is all sorted before you’re going through security rather than having your bags rummaged through.
  • Don’t over pack. Make a list of what you’d like to take and try and economise. Use clothes that can be worn more than once, such as a maxi dress from George, or strappy vest tops that can be mixed and matched.
  • Make sure that your suitcase is distinguishable. Traveling without a luggage label would be silly, especially as airlines have a habit of mislaying suitcases. If you have a suitcase that is quite common in appearance, consider adding something personalised to it, so that you can spot it amongst the sea of bags on the conveyor belt with ease.
  • Roll your clothes if you’re not planning on ironing anything once you arrive at your destination. Not only will the garments be less creased, but you’ll also be able to fit more in your suitcase.
  • If you’re travelling with more than one suitcase, consider splitting your things so that essentially, you and your family are sharing each of your suitcases. That way, if you lose one bag, you don’t lose all of your belongings.
  • Double bag your toiletries, just in case the pressure of the aircraft causes anything to leak. Plastic containers can expand in the unpressurised hold, and you don’t want your things to get damaged!
  • Weigh your suitcase before you arrive at the airport – bathroom scales are ideal and can give you an inkling as to how heavy your suitcase is in advance.
Most of all, make the most out of your well-deserved break! Be sensible about how much you take and enjoy every second of the sunshine!

I’d love to know your summer holiday plans, where is everyone jetting off to? I need to find myself a super cheap holiday too, so any suggestions are welcome :)
